10th March 2016

Weather: SE force 1
What a difference a day makes, yesterday drizzle and strong wind, today calm with early sunshine and feeling very pleasent indeed. The very high tide meant only a short visit was possible with time for just one circuit of the island. Meadow Pipits and Dunnocks were singing, also a Rock Pipit briefly, it seems hopeful that they may breed again this year (above CJ). A look at the sea found a drake Goldeneye and about 1,500 distant Common Scoters and 2 Red-breasted Mergansers. Two Skylarks and a Goldfinch called while passing over. Sanderling seemed to have peaked early for the spring as over 500 were around the north shore, while 2 Purple Sandpipers were at the north end.
