2nd April 2015

Weather:  SSE 3, drizzle

The weather conditions were promising as the rain did not arrive until around dawn.

A Chiffchaff was noted flying between Little and Middle as one observer walked on early morning and there were at least half a dozen around the islands by 1030hrs.

Small numbers of Meadow Pipits passed through and a couple of Wheatears were grounded by the drizzle.

At around 850am an Osprey appeared opposite the Obs door hovering above the ebbing gutter.  It then proceeded to dive and catch a fish, briefly alighting on the rocks at the South End before being chased by Herring Gulls and Crows.  It then took up temporary residence on the East Hoyle bank for the next hour eating its prey.

A great start to April on the islands. (Photos above by AEH; below 'back of camera' shot SRW)

Ringing: Chiffchaff 1

Note the Osprey is ringed on its right leg.
